I'm hooked on sharing sugary delights... I have two pages on facebook

For the whole wide world of English speakers out there, native and otherwise, I also have a Facebook page appropriately titled
top of the world cakes. Find me there, if you dare :)

And for those lucky few of you out there who understand Icelandic (I'm not joking there are only about 300.000 people in the whole Icelandic nation) I have an Icelandic Facebook page, just look for veislu kökur http://www.facebook.com/veislukokur

Icelandic Marzipan towers... we Really like our sugar

I can pretty much guarantee, with overwhelming confidence, that if you ever have the good fortune of being invited to a big celebratory event here in this ice crusted country of mine, (by which I mean something like a christening, wedding, confirmation, graduation, jubilee or any momentous occasion in an individuals) life you will come across a phenomenon which I can best describe as the marzipan-lovers, sugar shocking, idea of heaven.
I kid you not, a mere whiff of the stuff will send you into a sugary haze... at least that's what it does to children... who by the way love it and quickly become addicted to it.
We call it a "Kransakaka" which literally translated would be something like "ring-cake", it is made from marzipan, egg whites and sugar rolled out and baked.
Traditionally it is a tower-like construction, decorated with sweets and occasionally ornamentation is added such as a top-piece of varying sorts.

It may look something like this.
That was my first, made just a few years ago...
But as you may suspect I can't really let anything be... it's not that I imagine I am necessarily improving on tradition, more that I like to stretch it's limits.
So the very next thing I did was...
Motorcycle... what else?
It's only natural.

Yes I agree, you have to be open minded to see the bike, but it's there, wheels and all.
I was giong for regular handlebars but I think I ended up with a monkey-bar sort of Harly hybrid.
 Don't laugh.

Anyway...
Once I had the hang of it I made a Horse

Someone had eaten the tail by the time I got that picture (I strongly suspect my father who just can't help himself.)
But towers are the most popular.

And I can't help myself... if you give me an excuse I will try to do something different...

What?
He liked boats.
I made him a lighthouse and a boat.

I still have some more which will be added later on and I'm always waiting for the next challange.

check back later :)

Keep it simple... Keep it sweet
